Abstract

Biodiversity is a valuable asset to our planet, and two islands in Indonesia are rich in biodiversity, Sulawesi and Sumatra. Both islands display a unique diversity of orchids and monkeys. The purpose of this study was to understand the differences in orchid and monkey biodiversity between the two islands. Based on previous research, the results of the study showed that Sulawesi has higher diversity in terms of orchids. This can be seen from the many species that exist in Sulawesi. In terms of monkey species biodiversity, both have a variety of unique monkey species. Sulawesi has several endemic monkey species while Sumatra is home to the highly endangered Sumatran orangutan. This diversity can be seen from the diversity of habitats, ecological factors, geography and geological history. Ecological and geographical conditions are very influential in determining the diversity of orchid and monkey species in each region.
